Music Has No Age Limit

Thursday I had a music recital at the SunnyBrook Retirement home. I sang them songs from the school musical, my old talent song, and a couple of classical songs I had been working on. They clapped so hard when I was done singing which was very rewarding.

After I sang I talked about the Miss America Organization and the impact it has made on my life, as well as what my personal platform is.

At the end of the recital, a couple of people came up to me and told me who music has affected their lives. One man told me that music is the main reason he had such a positive attitude when he was fighting over in Germany during World War 2. He used to get together with the other soldiers and sing songs with them when they marched or even when they ate.

The experiences I've had this week have really started to show me how truly important music is in a person's life.

One Step Closer

This afternoon I went to A New U, a beauty salon in downtown Muscatine, to get my hair and makeup done by Whitney. She did such a wonderful job! Just see for yourself!

Not only did she make me look amazing, but she made me feel amazing by making the experience so memorable by saying so many funny jokes. I recommend this salon for anyone who wants to feel like a pampered princess or prince.

After I got my hair and makeup done I went to Wilton, Iowa to get my pictures taken by Shirk Photography. All of the pictures were stunning and I had so much fun taking the photos. I even got some modeling tips out of it that I can't wait to use later in life. After a lot of pictures and fun, we had to narrow all of the pictures down to two that will be used for the Miss Iowa's Outstanding Teen pageant in the summer. It was a tough choice because they were all so magnificent and I had many favorites, but at the end of the appointment we knew that the two picked were the right ones. He is even letting me use more for promoting my essay contest as well as using some for other promotions!

Today was such spectacular day and I honestly couldn't thank the both of them enough!

Shaking up a Daycare's Day

This morning I visited Happy Home Daycare to share my platform, The Magic of Music. I showed the kids that you can get an instrument for free by taking empty cardboard boxes and putting noodles, rice, and beans in them to make a sound. After taping up the boxes and each decorated our own, we shook our recycled instrument to the beat of "Party Rock Anthem".

Not only did the kids learn how to have free fun, but I learned something as well. After we made our instruments, a shy little boy in the back of the classroom walked up to me and hugged me. He told me that he had so much fun today and he couldn't wait to go home and show his parents his new instrument. He also told me that he couldn't wait for Christmas so that he could ask Santa to bring him a drum set.  This experience taught me how much of an impact you can make on a child's life by simply doing a crafty activity with them and sharing the magic of music. Knowing that I have inflicted joy in this child makes me feel so much more passionate about this platform. Music does change a child's life in small and in big ways.

All in all today was a successful and amazing day. This kids have proven to me that my platform does change lives and brightens someone's day. I can defiantly see myself going back there soon to hold another music class.

March is the National Music Month

To help promote music in schools and encouraging others to get involved in their local music programs as a student ambassador of the VH-1 Save the Music Program, I met up with Mayor Hopkins and asked him to make a proclamation about March as the music month. I gave a speech at the Muscatine Council Meeting which explained my love for music, as well as why music is so important to maintain in somebody's life.  Council voted for this proclamation and I can't wait to get started on the essay contest as well as a city wide talent show that will give back to the schools' music program, as well as VH-1 Save the Music Program.

I encourage everyone to get involved with this wonderful program or even take up a music class or an instrument during March. You never know what new passion could be waiting for you around the corner.
